Beta Tau Chapter is pleased to announce the availability of the Chapter Research Grant for 2007. The Chapter will award two grants, $1,000 each, at the spring Induction ceremony. Applications for this grant will be reviewed by the members of the Research Committee. The guidelines for submitting an application for this grant are attached and are also available on the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies web site under Nursing Organizations, Sigma Theta Tau International link.
Applications must be postmarked on or before April 1

Applications will be judged by members of the Research Committee of Beta Tau Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. The Research Committee may consult external sources as needed for additional expertise. An officer of Beta Tau Chapter will serve in an ex-officio capacity on the review committee.

Criteria for Awarding Grants:
- Applicant Criteria
- Hold formal preparation in the conduct of nursing research and a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing, or nursing student enrolled in a higher degree program in nursing with direct supervision of a qualified teacher meeting above criteria. (Applicant should submit supervisor’s curriculum vitae)
- Application
- Submit application and a written research proposal according to the guidelines. (Data collection may be in process.)
- Submit a signed formal agreement for money usage and public report findings.
- Preference will be given to Sigma Theta Tau International members, other attributes being equal.
- Competitive Basis for Fund Allocation
- Quality of written proposal
- Contribution of the research proposed to nursing science and public benefit, or research that aids the scientific education of nursing students
- Research proposal budget
- Research fund budget and number of proposals submitted
Research Proposal Format and Instructions
- Title and Abstract
A title page and an abstract of no great than 100 words must accompany the proposal. The abstract should include a succinct description of the proposed project including the overall objective of the project, the methods to be used in the project, and the relevance of the project to nursing.
- Narrative Proposal (not to exceed five single-spaced pages, typeface no smaller than 12 point, 1” margin on all sides)
- Part 1. Problem
- Statement of the problem or research question
- Significance of the problem to nursing
- Selected relevant literature
- Hypotheses, if appropriate to research question and design
- Theoretical framework, if appropriate to research question and design
- Theoretical and operation definitions, if appropriate to research question and design
- Part 2. Methods
- Research design
- Instrumentation (including psychometric evidence), as appropriate
- Sample, sample size, and sampling strategy
- Data collection procedures
- Data analysis procedures
- Part 3. Reference and Appendices (not included in the five page limit)
- Cited literature
- Letters of support, data collection forms, and copies of instruments, as appropriate to the project
- Investigator(s) curriculum vitae
- Part 4. Budget (funds are not available for salary expenses of the PI or other members of the research team; indirect costs are not allowed under this grant program)
